Situated in the north of Paris is the highest point in the city, the unique and vibrant district of Montmartre. The Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur caps the summit of the hill with its iconic white travertine dome. The Roman-Byzantine style church was proposed by the Bishop of Nantes following France’s defeat in the Franco-Prussian war in 1870. Visitors can climb 300 steps to the top of the Dome of Sacré-Cœur to take in a stunning view of Paris.
