an artist’s paradise

Situated in the north of Paris is the highest point in the city, the unique and vibrant district of Montmartre. Steep, cobbled streets wind through the charming village that was once home to acclaimed artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso. Artists are still drawn to Montmartre’s quaint atmosphere and bohemian spirit, filling La Place du Tertre with their easels to paint en plein air. The Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur caps the summit of the hill with its iconic white travertine dome. The Roman-Byzantine style church was proposed by the Bishop of Nantes following France’s defeat in the Franco-Prussian war in 1870. Visitors can climb 300 steps to the top of the Dome of Sacré-Cœur to take in a stunning view of Paris.
