Described as “the most beautiful avenue in the world,” the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is a 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) road between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the Arc de Triomphe is located. During the reign of Louis XIV, landscape architect André Le Nôtre planned the wide promenade that would become the iconic avenue as an extension of the Jardin des Tuileries. Steeped in history and brimming with culture, the avenue has seen monumental military parades, protests, and many Tour de France races. The lively avenue is a hotspot known for luxury shopping, theatres, nightlife and several Michelin-starred restaurants.
