Francophone Worlds

Monthly Workshop Series

“Francophone Worlds” is a series of monthly workshops addressing cultural issues related to the diversity of francophone cultures. Each one hour-workshop consists of a group discussion focusing on specific materials communicated in advance to registered participants. This series engages with the histories of the French language and reflects on the hopes and challenges they raise today. The workshop is open to all levels of French and is conducted primarily in English.

For its second session, “Francophone Worlds” will have the pleasure of hosting Michèle Magnin, Professor of French at the University of San Diego. Professor Magnin will present her work on researching and digitalizing the archives of Marguerite Durand (1864-1936) and Jane Misme (1865-1935), two great figures of feminism and journalism in France. This session will discuss the (in)visibility of women in the history of the French language, media, and literature.
